The Relationship of Hematological Disorders in SARS-CoV-2 Patients with Intensive Care Needs and Survival

Abstract
Objective: It was aimed to retrospectively examine the clinical and survival results of patients who were consulted with the hematology clinic due to hematological disorders related to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2).

Materials and methods: In this study, the data of patients who were hospitalized and consulted to the hematology clinic due to hematological disorders related to COVID-19 infection diagnosed by radiological findings and/or PCR results in the Ministry of Health Istanbul Training and Research Hospital between April 1 2020 and May 21 2020, were evaluated, retrospectively.

Results: Of the 48 patients evaluated in the study, 25 (52%) were female and 29 (60%) were 60 years old and above. Leukocytosis in 5(10%) patients, leukopenia in 19 (39%) patients, and D-Dimer ≥2ng/mL and Ferritin ≥500ml/ng in 32(66%) patients were remarkable. D-Dimer was found to be ≥2ng/mL and Ferritin ≥500ml/ng in 9 out of 10 patients in intensive care. A total of seven (14%) patients died. Conclusion: Patients who are over the age of 60, and have lymphocyte count <1000μl/ml, D-Dimer value above 2ng/mL, and ferritin over 500ml/ng are more likely to need a follow-up in the intensive care. For this reason, vaccination of people over the age of 60, moreover, the high antibody response obtained with the vaccine seems to be the most important precaution that can be taken against this disease.

Diagnosing active TB accurately and rapidly is a key challenge for eradicating the TB epidemic. Conventional culture methods are slow and staining methods not sufficiently sensitive. Nucleic acid amplification techniques (NAATs) tend to be costly and in some cases lack sensitivity. Antibody detection tests (serological tests) have a long history and have been used successfully for the rapid diagnosis of many infectious diseases (e.g., HIV, syphilis, and viral hepatitis). TB serological tests almost exclusively rely on antibody recognition of antigens of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by the humoral immune response, as opposed to antigen recognition by the cellular immune response (e.g. interferon-gamma release assays. These tests use various modifications of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or immunochromatographic methods to detect different antibody classes. Cellular immunodiagnostics, including tuberculin skin test (TST) and Interferon-Gamma Release Assays (IGRAs) have been used to diagnose latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). The TST is the only universally accepted test for the diagnosis of LTBI.

Leishmaniasis is one the six most important diseases in tropical areas. Study and research on various aspects of it is recommended and supported by the World Health Organization. Broom tail rodents (Rodentia: Muridae: Gerbillinae) are the most important reservoir host of parasite causes wet cutaneous leishmaniasis (or Zoonotic Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (ZCL) disease) means leishmania major. Different species of rodents from different regions of Iran play role in maintenance of the parasite. The purpose of this research is molecular study of cutaneous leishmaniasis human reservoirs and infections in Bastak County, Hormozgan Province, Iran

A cross sectional study was carried out to estimate the prevalence of chicken coccidial infections and assessment of the associated risk factor in backyard chickens in and around Debre Tabore town, South Gondar Zone, Northwest Ethiopia from October 2015 and May 2016.Floatation techniques were used for qualitative study of coccidialoocyst. Descriptive statistics was used to express prevalence while chi-square test used to assess if there was statistically significant association between targeted host factors and coccidial infection. The degrees of these associations were quantified using crude and adjusted odds ratio. Statistical significance was assumed if the confidence interval (CI) did not include one among its values or whenever p-value was less than 5%. The overall animal prevalence for coccidial infections was 21.4% (48/224) and the prevalence was significantly associated with breed (p=0.019), age (p=0.028) and sex (p=0.004) of the study animals. In a multivariable logistic regression analysis, female (Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR)=0.3; 95%CI:0.17-0.68) and exotic breeds (AOR=0.46; 95%CI:0.23-0.93) were found less likely infected with coccidialoocystes as compared to male and local chickens. However, increased risk for coccidial infection was recorded in adult chicken (AOR=2.04; 95%CI:1.02-4.08) as compared to the grower chickens. In conclusion, this study showed coccidial infection could be important in the backyard chickens in the study area even though the overall prevalence was relatively low. Moreover, the prevalence was higher in adults than the growers, which alerts the need to undertake suitable and practically applicable control and prevention measures in the parent stocks.

Sexual transmitted diseases (STDs) are increasing. The prevalence of syphilis is increasing especially as Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is increasing. There is paucity of published researches on haematological changes associated to syphilis in this part of the World. The population of the University where this study was done is dominated with highly sexually active persons. The study was done to determine haematological changes associated to syphilis in the subjects in Umudike. The study was done in a Secondary Health Institution. The study started January 2015 to December 2016.

We use a small part of its physical properties. In nature, water plays a special role, it ensures the existence and development of life on Earth. Dissolves various substances and delivers to the destination, providing the biota dissolved in it with minerals and organic. Water itself never remains in a stable state. After precipitation, it repeatedly changes its functions, its physical and chemical properties. It rises into the atmosphere with vapors and secretions of animal and vegetable worlds. A peculiar natural filter passes, at the output of which the vapors are structured by strictly individual living beings and plants. The sum of such fumes is a special substance that makes its special contribution to atmospheric phenomena.
